Kirsty, The 2005 Chestnut Queen SAVE OUR FETE !
Sunday 18th June 2006 will be the last for the Bagnall Fete and Crowning of the Chestnut Queen unless we get more volunteers to help plan for the big day and/or be available to help out on the day. For many years a band of determined committee members and local volunteers have planned for and run the fete on the day. However, as this band has got smaller the jobs have become too much. Further, the 2006 Fete will see the retirement of Sheila Tipper and Muriel Ahuja from the organisation of the Chestnut Queen's crowning ceremony. Without replacement volunteers in place to see the 2006 fete at first hand, the 2007 Fete will not happen. Despite recent press appeals in "The Sentinel", "The Leek Post & Times" and "Your Leek Paper" on Monday 12th October 2005 requesting that volunteers come forward to the recent Fete Committee meeting on Wednesday 2nd November 2005, there has been only one tentative offer of support. At this recent meeting, the Fete Committee decided to give it "one last go" and are now desperately appealing for volunteers to come forward before the next meeting planned for Wednesday 3rd May 2006 at 7:30 PM which will be held in the upstairs meeting room of Moorlands Village Hall, School Road, Bagnall. If this final appeal is unsuccessful, the Fete Committee will very reluctantly have no option but to make the 2006 Fete the last ! Moorlands Village Hall relies on the annual fete to raise money to keep the Hall open. Without this annual income, the future of the Hall itself is in jeopardy.
